When summer fades away and the cold days arrive, it’s time to reorganize your wardrobe. I love taking the time to put together new outfits and find pieces I’ll enjoy wearing for years to come. Right now, I’m rethinking my style and constantly searching for new winter fashion must-haves — not because I’m obsessed with shopping, but because I feel different each season compared to the last.

Fashion has always played a much bigger role in our lives than just keeping us warm. It’s how we send social signals, reveal our identity, and tell the world which stage of life we’re in. For a while, I was obsessed with my ripped jeans that had crooked nails sewn onto them. Yes, just like the nails you’d find at a hardware store — Diesel once released a design like this. I loved those jeans because they perfectly reflected what I was striving for at the time: a rebellious break from the conventional role of mother and wife to an artist, traveling across Europe with tripods, lenses, an analog camera, and all kinds of 35mm film. An elegant dress or classic blazer simply wouldn’t have suited me back then.

Now it’s different. This fall, I’ve been on the lookout for beautiful fabrics that are both elegant and warm enough for the season. Dressing warmly doesn’t mean you need to wrap yourself in thick fabrics or layer up like an onion. There’s a wonderful solution for the cold months: silk, cashmere or wool. Silk, in particular, is amazing at retaining heat, even though the fabric is so thin.
