Fashion Week Berlin | Rebekka Ruetz Runway Show

The year couldn’t have started better: with a visit to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. Rebekka Ruetz’s runway show was scheduled for Wednesday, and I had the honor of being invited. I couldn’t have imagined a better start to the year: On Tuesday, I flew to Berlin, attended the show on Wednesday, and by the evening, I was already on my way back to Munich. The trip to Berlin and my visit to Fashion Week exceeded all my expectations.

REBEKKA RUETZ RUNWAY-SHOW FALL/WINTER 2020/21

At Fashion Week, Rebekka Ruetz presented her new collection with the title strIDent. The core message: environmental awareness. The fashion industry plays a massive role in raising awareness of environmental issues. Especially young designers have the opportunity to use their creations to highlight the importance of saving our planet. The colorful prints on Rebekka Ruetz’s fabrics are based on photographs depicting ocean pollution caused by microplastics. Some outfits feature an aerial view of the Earth as a print – a powerful reminder of how fragile our planet is.

The collection is dominated by colors such as electric blue, underwater turquoise, glass green, gold, curry yellow, and raven black. The gold represents the lifelines of our planet, symbolizing the continuous exploitation of Earth’s resources. The curry yellow stands for resistance, while burgundy red signifies open wounds. In contrast, buttermilk white and stone gray run through the collection as symbols of rebellious nature. Some outfits feature diverse silhouettes and defiant shapes – a statement and an attempt to save the world, holding on to the hope that it’s not too late.

MODE FOR THE MODERN AMAZON

Rebekka Ruetz founded her Prêt-à-porter label in 2009 and presented her first collection at Berlin Fashion Week in 2011. Her fashion is unconventional, extravagant, and characterized by bold material combinations. She describes her work as “fashion for the modern Amazon.” Her distinctive style emerges from a mix of textures, materials, color contrasts, and prints. However, her designs aren’t just for special events – they are also wearable as street style.

In the new collection, I particularly loved the feminine accents in the long-cut, waist-defining outfits, as well as the medieval-inspired touches seen in faux fur details on wide sleeves with slim cuffs.

MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK – A MUST-HAVE FOR FASHION INSIDERS

Twice a year, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week transforms Berlin into a fashion capital on par with New York, Paris, and Milan. The first Fashion Week took place in 2007 and celebrates its 13th anniversary this year. Both emerging and established designers showcase their work, unveiling new trends and innovations in the fashion industry. Berlin turns into a massive showroom – filled with an atmosphere of creative freedom and unconventionality.

Since this year, Berlin Fashion Week has been held at Kraftwerk, an industrial-chic venue that provides the perfect backdrop for innovative fashion. Dimmed lighting, live screens broadcasting the runway shows, prominent guests, bloggers, and designers in the most extravagant outfits – all set against raw concrete walls and loft-style ambiance, creating an authentic, unique setting for sustainable fashion.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin was an unforgettable experience – creative, stylish, chic, bold, and a little crazy. The LV UFO artwork in the background was a perfect symbol of this energy. I am beyond happy to have been part of it and to have experienced Rebekka Ruetz’s stunning runway show! This visit was not only inspiring but also a valuable addition to my fashion section on the blog. And I completely fell in love with Berlin – its free spirit, its unconventionality, and its creative energy. I truly hope to visit this city again soon!

A huge thank you to Rebekka Ruetz and Hansmann PR for the invitation and this incredible show!
