Eyeliner Guide | My Top 6 Eyeliner Review

Eyeliner Guide – My Top 6 Eyeliners Reviewed on La Blonde Beauty Blog

Eyeliner Guide | My Top 6 Eyeliner Review

There’s one thing I could never do without: eyeliner. Since I was about 14, it has been a part of my daily makeup routine. Back then, it was just a black kohl pencil that wasn’t always perfectly sharpened. I must admit, it took me quite a while to learn how to draw a straight line. But without eyeliner, I can’t do anything – I just feel naked! Probably many girls can relate to this: Without a black eyeliner, I don’t recognize myself in the mirror. In this eyeliner guide, I’m going to show you the different types of eyeliners I use and how you can find the best one for your look.

GEL EYELINER

A gel eyeliner has a creamy consistency and is applied with a brush. It’s best to use a small amount of gel on the brush – you don’t want too much product on it. Don’t wait too long; gel dries quickly. Depending on the brush you use, you can create different looks. A thin brush gives you a fine look, while a thicker brush creates a more dramatic and bold effect. Applying gel eyeliner is much easier than using a liquid eyeliner.

LIQUID EYELINER

Liquid eyeliner has been my absolute favorite for years! I love the thin brush and the precision it provides! The color sets within seconds of application and doesn’t smudge later. With liquid eyeliner, I can really create a super thin line along the lash line. This is especially helpful when I want to create a natural look. I don’t want the eyeliner to be obvious but simply to emphasize and define the lash line. Although my daughter thinks that applying liquid eyeliner with a thin brush takes practice, liquid eyeliner is still my number one!

KOHL PENCIL WITH APPLICATOR

The kohl pencil is perfect for smoky eyes. Applying kohl is really easy! For a fine line, you can sharpen the pencil very finely, and for a more dramatic look, you can apply it thicker. A kohl pencil is also very good for drawing a line along the lower lash line or in the inner corner of the eye. The disadvantages include a somewhat sheer color result with a single application or the possibility that the line can smudge.

MECHANICAL KOHL PENCIL

A mechanical kohl pencil is also a kohl pencil, but with the advantage that you don’t have to sharpen it. This naturally means you can’t adjust how thick or thin the line is. I find that a mechanical kohl pencil is perfect for those moments when you’re in a hurry and don’t want to sharpen it. Just twist the cap off, twist the pencil up, draw the line, and you’re done!

EYE MARKER

Yes, exactly, it’s a marker! The pencil has an extra wide tip to draw beautiful, bold lines. For a “Drama, Baby!” look, this is just what you need! The color dries quickly, looks really deep black, and doesn’t smudge.

CAKE EYELINER

A cake eyeliner works essentially like a gel eyeliner, except that cake eyeliner is mixed with water. This creates a really nice color payoff. The idea of mixing color with water has an artistic flair to it. I imagine makeup professionals could achieve amazing results with this. It’s not my favorite though; I still need a bit more practice.
