Gray Coat with Skinny Jeans and Ankle Boots
I love the colder months because they bring an air of elegance. Summer is different — in summer, you often end up wearing jeans and t-shirts just because it’s comfortable. Maybe a dress — mainly due to the heat, as there’s often no other option. But fall and winter? They’re the perfect seasons for fashionistas: well-defined silhouettes and long coats make every outfit look stylish and elegant.

When the weather turned cold, I started looking for a coat. I thought: a gray coat would be just right. I was really in the mood to wear gray. And yes, there are tons of them from every brand and in every store. Still, I don’t find it easy to pick the perfect coat. Believe it or not, shopping is never easy for me. I need to fall in love with something before I buy it. Otherwise, I just end up with unnecessary purchases piling up in my wardrobe, giving me that familiar feeling of having a lot of clothes but nothing to wear. Do you know that feeling too?

This year, though, I got lucky. I found the coat I truly love — a tailored gray wool coat from Ted Baker — and I instantly fell for it! It can be worn both elegantly or casually. Today, I’m showing you the elegant version, styled with waxed skinny jeans and ankle boots. You could also go for a more casual look with sneakers, but I prefer the elegant approach — it pairs better with the fine fabric of the coat.
My skinny jeans are a must-have in my wardrobe, as they go with almost every outfit. A few years ago, I bought a pair of black waxed skinny jeans from Burberry and ever since, I’ve been restocking this style again and again. They’re perfect year-round and incredibly versatile.

Pants or skirt? I’ve paired the coat with skirts as well and found that it looks best with shorter skirts. Longer skirts tend to make the coat look bulky. But in general, I prefer pants during fall. My black jeans pair perfectly with classic ankle boots and a chain handbag. And just like that, my elegant outfit is almost complete. But only almost! Black and gray always go well together, but in my opinion, it can look a bit too monochromatic, and I wanted to add a pop of color. During my last shopping trip with my daughter in Bolzano, I found some pink gloves that complemented the outfit beautifully. By the way, if you’re not a fan of fur collars—the collar on my coat is detachable.

GRAY COAT: HOW TO STYLE IT WITH OTHER ITEMS
If I were to pair this coat with a skirt, I’d choose one that’s no longer than knee-length. To emphasize the elegant silhouette and add a feminine touch, heeled boots are the best option. Classic Dr. Martens would make the whole look feel too heavy. A pop of color would also work well: bright, bold gloves or a silk scarf tied to the handle of your handbag. And just like that, your look is complete!
