The Best Hotels in Germany | Schlosshotel Kronberg

I’ve probably already told you how much I love spontaneous trips and unexpected discoveries — whether it’s a new special location or a beautiful hotel I didn’t know about before. It feels like a treasure hunt — I plan a travel route or look for must-see spots along the way. And you know what? Since I started traveling like this, all our trips have become much more spectacular. In the past, you’d just go on vacation and travel from point A to point B, but now it’s a real hunt for experiences. The best part is the unexpected. Our lives today are often planned down to the last detail, so a bit of adventure is definitely needed. That’s exactly how it was when we flew back to Germany from our Sicily trip: on our way from Frankfurt Airport to Munich, we discovered Schlosshotel Kronberg, which definitely ranks among the best hotels in Germany.

Sure, you could simply drive straight from Frankfurt Airport to Munich — it’s only a four-hour drive after all. But where’s the fun in that? The real joy is in extending the journey by adding an overnight stay somewhere along the way, stretching the vacation just a little bit longer. Even though it was a slight detour, since the hotel is located slightly north of Frankfurt Airport, as soon as I saw the pictures of the castle, I knew I couldn’t miss it!
SCHLOSSHOTEL KRONBERG: FROM IMPERIAL RESIDENCE TO INTERNATIONAL FILM SET
When we arrived, I first thought we were in a museum. Or better yet — on a movie set, and everything around us was just part of the scenery. Or, even better — it felt like being in a fairytale. The former Friedrichshof Castle was built for the German Empress Victoria, Queen of Prussia, and daughter of British Queen Victoria, designed in the style of English country estates. After World War II, following extensive renovations and restorations, Friedrichshof Castle was transformed into Schlosshotel Kronberg. Interestingly, Schlosshotel Kronberg has indeed been used as a filming location, including for international productions like the movie Spencer about Princess Diana.

It was quite a shift — from the dusty country roads of western Sicily, where I had spent the last two weeks, to the refined surroundings of German royalty. When you’ve been driving around Sicily for a while, you mentally “wild out” a bit, as Sicily, especially in the west, leaves its mark with its authentic, untamed character. In contrast, Schlosshotel Kronberg is the complete opposite of Sicily’s colorful, loud, and unpredictable world. But that’s exactly what I love about our travels: the contrasts that sometimes pop up unexpectedly. It makes me feel like I’m truly experiencing life in all its richness and diversity.

One of the highlights of Schlosshotel Kronberg was its rose garden. Countless roses were blooming all at once, creating a stunning sea of flowers. I have a special weakness for gardens like these, as I grew up in a house surrounded by roses. But that’s not all: the castle also has a golf course, designed in the style of a traditional English garden, and it’s definitely one of the most beautiful golf courses in Germany. What I’m definitely planning to explore on my next visit is the Beauty Cottage — a beauty farm offering exclusive treatments. At some point, though, we had to head back to Munich — after all, you can’t stay on vacation forever.
