The Houndstooth Pattern | How to Wear the Fashion Must-Have

In 2020, the houndstooth pattern is celebrating a major comeback. Houndstooth is a pattern with history: it originates from Scotland, where it was used in men’s clothing. In the 1920s, Coco Chanel made houndstooth a symbol of elegance; later, the pattern appeared in Dior’s creations, and it was back in trend in the 60s and 80s. Over the decades, the houndstooth pattern has only gained value — the check pattern has firmly established itself as a stylish and classic touch in outfits. Personally, I really like houndstooth because the pattern reminds me of the 80s.

Today, the houndstooth pattern remains fully on-trend and is constantly being reinterpreted. From runways to street style, the pattern is present everywhere and makes any look chic and stylish. It is definitely an eye-catcher — the houndstooth pattern is striking and gives any outfit personality and a visually dominant note.

The houndstooth pattern is also called “houndstooth” or “pied-de-poule.” This weaving technique is seen today in many color variations, but I prefer to wear houndstooth in the classic black-and-white edition. I wear a houndstooth skirt with a black turtleneck sweater and complete the look with a brown coat so that my outfit doesn’t appear too monochromatic. Below, I’ve linked my houndstooth favorites along with the matching items. And here you’ll find the links to the items from my look.
